Gulf Coast Gold Star Families

Gulf Coast Gold Star Families

Memorial Monument

A group of gulf coast Gold Star family members and fellow patriotic citizens has organized to bring a Gold Star Memorial Monument to the Pensacola area.  Our intent is to gain approval for placement at the Veterans Memorial Park of Pensacola. In the coming months, we will raise awareness and financial support for this effort.

The greater Florida/Alabama gulf coast community enjoys a rich military heritage and is home to hundreds of thousands of active duty service members, Veterans and retirees of military service. Gold Star family members are among us and we look to create a place of repose and respect for their sacrifice in the loss of their loved ones.

The Gold Star Families Memorial Project, founded by Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams, places uniform monuments at memorial sites around the country.  The monuments recognize the importance of homeland and families for their role in molding and guiding our youth in the direction of service to country and pays tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of the service member as well as the life-long sacrifice of the surviving family members.

As we come together too often to mourn the loss of our brave fighting men and women, there is a living memorial that carries the burden daily – their family and friends.  For them, the truly hard part is living; to pick up the pieces, fashion them back together into some semblance of order.  To bravely carry on.  The Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments acknowledges and pays tribute to the suffering, sacrifice, honor and dignity of the survivors – the families, immediate, extended and beyond, who are the living legacy of the fallen.
